Buying a new fence for your property can be a big investment. So taking proper care of your fence is very important. Fortunately, when you buy a fence from Betafence, you know that you’re buying a high-quality product with a long lifetime. There are however a few small things that you can do from your side to make sure that your fence is kept in good working order. Follow our checklist below to see which things you need to keep an eye out for when caring for your fence.
Corrosion
While all Betafence fencing products are expertly coated to prevent corrosion, it is still possible in some circumstances. For example, if some of the coating was damaged during installation, these parts can become susceptible to corrosion. Thankfully, small amounts of corrosion can be treated if detected soon enough. A simple visual inspection of your fence should alert you to any potential problems.
If you live in a highly corrosive area, like near the coast, it’s very important to make sure that you buy a fence with the proper coating to prevent corrosion. Coastal areas are harsher to fence coatings, so you might need a product with a non-standard coating. If you’re uncertain about which fence is the best choice for you location, our team will gladly guide you in the right direction.
Damage
While metal fence such as our TruView and UpGrade ornamental steel fences are very strong, they can still be vulnerable to damage. Think for example of a tree falling on the fence during a storm, or a car being accidently driven into the fence. Accidents like these can cause a lot of damage to a fence – from dented fence posts to broken fence panels. The best thing to do when your fence is damaged, is to replace the damaged part. All Betafence fence system elements can be bought individually on our webshop, so replacement parts for a damaged fence can be bought easily and cost-effectively.
Loose Fence Posts
Loose fence posts are a potentially serious threat to the stability of your fence. A fence can be knocked down if one or more posts are not securely anchored. You can check the stability of your fence posts by simply jigging them with your hand. If the posts wobble or seem in any way unstable, they should be resecured – either on their base plates, or with new cement in the ground.
Overgrowth
As discussed above, trees can cause significant damage to a fence. Overgrown plants on and around the fence can also cause minor damage, and also undermines visibility through the fence. Regularly check your fence line to make sure that your plants aren’t causing damage to your fence. If this is the case, it is best to trim the overgrown plants, or replant them in another area of your yard.
